Rare Sub-Freezing Temps Loom for Lincoln County

Far Below Our Usual 40s

National Weather Service Portland has issued a Cold Weather Advisory that includes Lincoln County along Oregon’s central coast, with temperatures and wind chills expected to drop sharply tonight into Saturday morning.

The advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. this evening (Friday, Jan. 23, 2026) through noon Saturday, covering lower elevations across much of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington—including the Central Coast of Oregon, which encompasses Lincoln County communities like Lincoln City, Newport, Depoe Bay, Waldport, Otis, Gleneden Beach, and Siletz.

In Lincoln County, daytime conditions today have been mild with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s under partly cloudy to sunny skies, but overnight lows are forecast to fall into the upper 20s to mid-30s as clear skies allow rapid radiational cooling. This aligns with the advisory’s warning of temperatures and wind chills as low as 15 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit in affected lower-elevation areas, raising risks of frostbite and hypothermia with prolonged exposure.

The broader advisory zone stretches from the Clatsop and Tillamook county coasts northward, through the Portland metro, Willamette Valley lowlands, Vancouver and Clark County areas in Washington, and parts of the Columbia River Gorge—impacting dozens of cities from Astoria to Eugene foothills and Hood River to Longview.

Impacts — Very cold wind chills and sub-freezing temperatures can lead to frostbite or hypothermia during extended outdoor time, particularly overnight and into Saturday morning.

Precautionary actions — Residents in Lincoln County and across the region should dress warmly in layers, cover exposed skin with hats, gloves and scarves, and limit time outside. Bring pets indoors, provide livestock with warm, dry shelter, food and unfrozen water, and check frequently on elderly neighbors, friends or family. Use portable heaters safely—never run generators or grills indoors to prevent carbon monoxide risks.

Anyone without heat or adequate shelter can call 211 for assistance locating warming centers or resources.
