True Stories of the Oregon State Police

The following reports are taken from the Daily Log of the Oregon State Police. All individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Feb. 26: Non-Injury Crash on Hwy 18 Near Milepost 1.5

A white Dodge Ram truck driven by Eric Saul Calata, 23, of Corvallis, was traveling eastbound when it crossed the oncoming lane and left the roadway, coming to rest down the westbound embankment. Calata was aware his tires were worn and needed replacement. He was cited for reckless driving, and the vehicle was towed by Car Care Towing.

Feb. 27: DUII – Controlled Substance on US-101 Near Milepost 140, Newport

A black Mazda MX6 was stopped, and driver Noah Benjamin Palter, 27, of Tillamook, was found impaired and arrested for DUII, reckless endangering (victim: passenger Miguel Garcia Bautista, 26, of Tillamook), and reckless driving. Investigative property and drugs were involved.

Feb. 28: DUII – Alcohol and Controlled Substances on US-101 Near Milepost 126, Gleneden Beach

A gray Mercedes Cougar was stopped, and driver Dylan Riley Hoagland of Lincoln City was found impaired and arrested for DUII, reckless endangering (victim: passenger Casey Goodhue of Gleneden Beach), reckless driving, and carrying a concealed weapon. Investigative and general property were involved.

March 1: Theft Reported by Weyerhaeuser Security

Multiple instances of unauthorized salal harvesting were captured on trail cameras between Feb. 7 and Feb. 21. Suspect vehicles include a white Nissan Frontier (915NNJ) and a white Ford Explorer (382QAE). Suspect Genaro Hernandez Lopez, 39, of Waldport, is involved, and the investigation is ongoing.

March 1: Environmental Violation at Yaquina Bay, Newport

A Fish and Wildlife Trooper observed angler James Richard Scales, 53, littering at the Newport Marina boat ramp. Scales was cited for depositing trash within 100 yards of waters/in water.

March 1: Warrant Arrest in Lincoln County

A traffic stop on Old Scenic Hwy 101 at Hwy 18 intersection revealed a vehicle towing a trailer with no brake lights or turn signals. Driver Enrique Noriega Salazar, 21, of Otis, had a suspended license and a felony warrant. He was arrested for the warrant (unlawful use of weapon) and cited for driving while suspended-violation, then lodged at Lincoln County Jail.

March 3: Non-Injury Crash on Hwy 20 at Fruitvale Rd

In a construction zone, a red Ford Focus driven by Joshua Morris, 20, of Newport, was stopped when rear-ended by a white Dodge Dakota driven by Abraham Lincoln Bonney, 51, of Lebanon, who failed to stop. Both vehicles were damaged.

March 3: Injury Crash on Hwy 18 Near Milepost 5, Otis

A head-on collision occurred when driver Lawrence Colton Simpson, 36, of Eugene, in a blue Subaru Forester, crossed the center line and struck a blue Honda Civic driven by Daniel Enrique Mendoza, 20, of Salem. Mendoza was transported to the hospital with injuries; Simpson was uninjured. Both vehicles were totaled and towed by Car Care Specialist. Investigation ongoing to determine cause.

March 4: Traffic Crimes on Hwy 101 Near Tillicum Park and Campground, Yachats

A green Honda CRV was stopped for violations, and driver Laura M. Fedick of Waldport was found to have a misdemeanor-level suspended/revoked license. She was arrested for driving while suspended-misdemeanor and lodged at Lincoln County Jail; the vehicle was picked up by friends/family.
