LINCOLN CITY — On Monday, February 16, 2026, Lincoln City Police Department K9 Nix assisted Girl Scout Troop 10143 as the group worked toward earning its Animal Helpers Badge.
Accompanied by Curry, a representative from Guide Dogs for the Blind, Nix participated in a demonstration that illustrated the essential role animal partners play in public safety. The presentation highlighted the close human-animal bonds that enable police K9s to perform tasks such as tracking and apprehension, while also showcasing how guide dogs provide independence and mobility to people with visual impairments.
K9 Nix, a Belgian Malinois, has become a fixture in the department since joining from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Beyond her primary duties in law enforcement, she serves as an ambassador, helping to build trust and educate the community about the value of these specialized partnerships.
The Lincoln City K9 Program was established through donations from local residents and relies on continued community support to operate. Department officials expressed ongoing appreciation for the contributions that allow such initiatives to thrive.
The session offered the Scouts a firsthand look at how working animals contribute to safety and well-being — a reminder of the collaborative spirit that strengthens small communities along the Oregon Coast.
