NEWPORT, Ore. — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Citizen Academy is in session this January 2026, delivering a free, interactive program that gives residents an inside look at local law enforcement through presentations, tours and hands-on activities.
The 11-week course, held Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., covers patrol operations, investigations, jail functions, specialized units and more, building transparency and stronger bonds between deputies and coastal communities.
“This program helps dispel misconceptions while showcasing the dedication to public safety in our rural and coastal areas,” Sheriff’s Office officials have described in program overviews.
Participants from Newport, Lincoln City, Waldport, Yachats, Depoe Bay, Toledo, Siletz and beyond praise the eye-opening experience and its role in fostering community trust.
The academy runs annually, with graduates eligible to join the Community Advisory Group to influence public safety decisions.
For the next session—likely January 2027—residents should watch for announcements later this year. A background check is required, and space is limited, so early application is key—deadlines typically fall around mid-December.
This positive outreach effort highlights Lincoln County’s commitment to informed, engaged residents and resilient public safety partnerships.
