Depoe Bay, Ore. — Two seasoned Oregon journalists are teaming up to launch Boiler Bay Beacon, an independent news organization aimed at delivering factual reporting to coastal communities and the state at large.
Rick Beasley, a longtime reporter for the Newport News-Times with a string of journalistic accolades, and Justin Werner, founder and former publisher of the Lincoln City Homepage, announced the venture Thursday. The new outlet will focus on coverage of Newport, Depoe Bay, Lincoln City and broader Oregon issues, with an emphasis on truth-seeking journalism.
Beasley, who previously founded the Depoe Bay Beacon and has contributed to various digital and print media, brings decades of experience in local reporting. Werner, known for building the Lincoln City Homepage into a key source for community news, said the partnership seeks to create “the best publication for the truth” amid growing concerns over media reliability.
The organization will operate independently, free from corporate influences, and can be found online at boilerbaybeacon.com. Initial content is expected to roll out in the coming weeks, with plans for in-depth investigations, community spotlights and state-level analysis.
Beasley was also candidate for Lincoln County commissioner, highlighting his involvement in local governance issues.
The launch comes as independent journalism outlets gain traction in rural areas, filling gaps left by declining traditional media.
Two men on a mission.
No stone will be unturned!
Happy to be reporting again.
Thrilled to see this independent voice join Oregon’s coast—and the state. As a former journalist, I deeply appreciate your commitment to facts and lived experiences. Can’t wait to see more of what you have in store.
Justin, glad you are paired up with Rick. I enjoyed working with you both in City government. We hope to have news to share in the future.
