In Lincoln City, where the Oregon Coast’s weather can shift from sunny to soggy in a heartbeat, Game On Adventure Park offers an indoor escape for families.
The playground opened last year in a space purchased by local entrepreneur Chris Donner from the Moore family. What was once the iconic Lil Sambo’s restaurant — a beloved coastal staple known for its pancakes and family-friendliness — is now a bright, engaging spot for kids to climb, slide and play, no matter the forecast outside.

Inside, a colorful carpet covers the floor, leading to sturdy play structures designed for safe, energetic fun. Twisting tunnels, slides and bridges encourage exploration, while parents can relax on comfortable couches nearby or join in the action themselves. Adults are welcome to climb alongside their children, making it a true family affair. “It’s very colorful, clean and super strong,” says Debbie Donner, who handles the front desk. “We’re not that busy when it’s nice outside, but if it’s cold or rainy, we’re busy.”

Safety is a priority. Socks are required, and all visitors must sign a waiver before entering the play area. Children need adult supervision at all times. Game On is open Sundays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Prices are straightforward, with $12 per child for ages 0-4 and $15 for ages 5 and up. A Fun Pass costs $100 for 10 visits, ideal for repeat adventurers. The arcade area adds extra excitement with claw machines, an air hockey table and a pinball machine inspired by the movie “Labyrinth” with David Bowie. A rollercoaster simulator (totally kid friendly) is a big draw. In addition to the spacious play area, a dedicated party room in the back of the building can be reserved for small or large parties.

Food options are on the way, too. Pirates Brunch has taken over the former Lil Sambo’s kitchen and will begin serving homemade breakfast and lunch in the coming days, with kid-friendly favorites like pancakes and hearty sandwiches. It’s a fitting revival, blending the restaurant’s legacy of joyful meals with a dash of pirate pizzazz.

Chris Donner, who also owns the popular Game Over Arcade a few blocks away, saw an opportunity to fill a gap in local family entertainment. The closure of longtime iconic tourism destination Putt N’ Bat left fewer indoor options for kids, especially during rainy spells. “I started this business because I have small children and wanted a place for them to play,” Donner says. “With Putt N’ Bat closing, kids suddenly had nothing to do, and because we have so much rain here, it just makes sense to create an indoor play palace for them.”

Donner couldn’t hide his enthusiasm about snapping up the Lil Sambo’s spot. “Buying from the Moore family felt like inheriting a piece of Lincoln City history,” he shares with a grin. “That kitchen has served up so many smiles over the years — now we’re keeping the tradition alive, but with slides instead of syrup.” He also hinted at expansions on the horizon: “We’re already brainstorming ways to tie in more arcade crossovers and maybe even themed events. The goal? Make sure every rainy day feels like a win for the whole family.”
For games and machines, plastic cards loaded with credits work seamlessly at both Game On and Game Over Arcade. “It’s all about making it easy for families,” Donner adds. “Load up once, play everywhere. Because who has time for extra hassle when the kids are on a roll?”
