LINCOLN CITY — If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of law enforcement or considered a career in policing, there’s an opportunity to learn directly from the experts.
The 13-week Citizens Police Academy program runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and takes place at 1503 SE East Devils Lake Rd., where department officials say it’s designed to foster communication and understanding between officers and the community they serve.
To join, applicants must be 21 or older and live in North Lincoln County — roughly between Otis and Depoe Bay. There’s also a criminal background check requirement and approval from Academy Director needed before enrollment.
The academy coordinator, Tami Williams, handles all inquiries at (541) 994-1481 or [email protected].
Inside the classroom, participants will meet officers in what department materials describe as “a positive and engaging environment.” There’s hands-on experience alongside instruction, giving attendees a clear look at LCPD operations that affect their daily lives.
While there are 13 total sessions, students need only attend 10 to complete the course. The program is open to anyone wanting to learn about local policing or understand community issues from an officer’s perspective.
