LINCOLN CITY — A Yamhill County man was sentenced last week to prison after a Lincoln County jury convicted him of luring a minor in a Lincoln City Police Department undercover investigation.
Richard Brotherton, 63, of Amity, was arrested March 13, 2026, after he initiated a sexually graphic conversation with an undercover officer posing as a minor. He was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on a charge of Luring a Minor.
Deputy District Attorney Madeleine Boyle of the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case for the state.
On July 1, 2026, after testimony from the Lincoln City Police Department, a Lincoln County jury found Brotherton guilty of Luring a Minor. On July 16, 2026, he was sentenced to 28 months in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections.
The Lincoln City Police Department is releasing Brotherton’s photo in an effort to identify any additional possible victims. Anyone who recognizes him and wishes to speak with an investigator is asked to contact the LCPD or their local law enforcement agency.
The department urges parents and guardians to monitor their children’s social media activity and talk with them about the risks of communicating with strangers online.
“These investigations are conducted in a continuing effort to protect our children from predators who target children for sexual exploitation and to reduce crime and further enhance the safety of our community,” the Lincoln City Police Department stated.
That’s not enough time, he needs 4 years without the possibility of parole.
