LINCOLN CITY — What does it look like when patriotism and public safety meet in the sallyport of a police department? Think of stuffed teddy bears, unicorns, plush dogs, dinosaurs and bunnies!

The Hilltop Patriots recently delivered a jumbo-size box full of “stuffies” to the Lincoln City Police Dept. for children involved in emergencies, accidents, family crises and other stressful situations.

“We reached out to Lincoln City Police Chief Dave Broderick who set everything up,” recalled Patriots leader Marie McFarland, saying the loveable toys were donated by members over several monthly meetings. “The Patriots’ mission is to support our community and local law enforcement, one child at a time. We are thankful to the LCPD for the incredible work they do to keep our community safe.”

As its name implies, the Patriots are a flag-waving conservative group founded in Lincoln City that has grown to chapters in several other counties. Guest speakers and topics cover the political and policy spectrum, but give way to community efforts such as the stuffed animal project and an annual Christmas Sock Drive for seniors, assisted living residents, shut ins and neighbors in need. Last year over 250 pairs of socks were collected and delivered.
