Lincoln City, Ore. – North Lincoln Fire & Rescue (NLFR) is opening doors for local teens interested in public service with the launch of its brand-new Youth in the Fire Service Program.

The initiative targets motivated young people ages 16 to 18, offering a hands-on introduction to the challenges and rewards of a career in the fire service.

The program provides structured, supervised training alongside experienced NLFR firefighters and mentors. Participants will gain real-world exposure through drills, physical fitness sessions, outdoor activities, and community service projects — all designed to build essential skills like leadership, teamwork, communication, and responsibility.

Program highlights include:

• Exploring fire service careers through direct participation in training and operations
• Building physical fitness and outdoor proficiency
• Developing leadership under the guidance of adult mentors and peers
• Contributing to the community through service projects

Applications are now being accepted. Interested teens can pick up forms in person at NLFR Station 14 (2525 NW Highway 101, Lincoln City) or request one via email from Deputy Chief Cody Heidt at [email protected].

NLFR, which serves the northern Lincoln County area including Lincoln City, has a long history of community involvement and volunteer support. This new youth program aims to foster the next generation of first responders while strengthening ties with local families.
