Two items from Oregon State Police news releases sit above this week’s desk log. The first is an overnight run of restroom vandalism and fires at state parks along the Lincoln County coast. The second is a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash on Highway 20 that is still under investigation.
August 21–22, 2026 – Criminal Mischief / Arson Investigation – Multiple Oregon State Parks, Lincoln County
OSP is investigating extensive vandalism that occurred sometime between approximately 10 p.m. on August 21 and 7 a.m. on August 22. Multiple state park restroom facilities were targeted. Damage ranged from ripped-off paper towel dispensers to destroyed or removed fixtures and other items inside the buildings. Fires were also intentionally started at several locations.
OSP said the affected locations may include Agate Beach State Wayside, Otter Rock State Park, Gleneden Beach State Park, and Fogarty Creek State Park. Oregon State Parks separately reported restroom damage and partial or full closures at Gleneden Beach, Fogarty Creek, Boiler Bay, Rocky Creek, Devil’s Punch Bowl, and Agate Beach. Parks officials said portable toilets were placed for visitors and that a repair cost and reopening timeline were not yet available.

August 26, 2026 – Crash – Fatal – US-20 near Milepost 10, Lincoln County
On Wednesday, August 26, at approximately 11:35 p.m., OSP responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash on Highway 20 near milepost 10.
The preliminary investigation indicated a beige 1996 Acura Integra, operated by Orion David Sliwka, 19, of Salem, was traveling westbound on Highway 20 when it struck what was initially believed to be a deer. The vehicle continued westbound and eventually stopped at a business in Newport. While there, a second party spoke with Sliwka and a passenger and learned they may have struck a person. That party called 911.
The Toledo Police Department later located a deceased pedestrian in a ditch near milepost 10. The pedestrian was identified as Cordaro Ryan Stock, 34, of Toledo.
Neither Sliwka nor his passenger was injured. Sliwka cooperated with investigators. Highway 20 was impacted for about six hours during the on-scene investigation.
The crash remains under investigation. OSP was assisted by Pacific West Ambulance, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Toledo Police Department, the Newport Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

August 14, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – SR-18 and N Deer Dr, Otis, Lincoln County
E-CRASH ONLY A single vehicle ran into a mailbox and a business sign. There were no injuries. The driver arranged their own tow.

August 14, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – SR-34 near Milepost 22, Alsea, Lincoln County
E-CRASH ONLY On August 14 at approximately 6:47 p.m., OSP received reports of a single-vehicle crash near milepost 22 on SR-34. A white Ford pickup towing a fifth-wheel-style trailer was navigating a curve when the driver observed a boulder in the roadway. The driver attempted to swerve to avoid the boulder and crashed into the ditch and side-slope earth off the shoulder. The Ford incurred only minor damage; the fifth-wheel was totaled. The vehicles were recovered from the ditch with assistance from ODOT Incident Response.

August 15, 2026 – Crash – Injury – US-101 near Milepost 151, Lincoln County
(E/Crash) Unit 1 was northbound on US-101 near milepost 151 when the driver fell asleep. The vehicle left the roadway, entered a ditch on the northbound side, then vaulted over a driveway that crossed the ditch. The vehicle redirected back onto the highway and rolled, coming to rest on its right side and blocking the southbound lane. The driver was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was towed by Rowley’s Towing.

August 16, 2026 – Police Officer Hold – US-20 near Milepost 3, Newport, Lincoln County
On August 16 at approximately 7:53 p.m., OSP responded to a welfare check near milepost 3 on US-20. The subject was found to be a threat to herself and others while throwing herself into oncoming traffic, nearly causing multiple crashes. A trooper placed the subject in custody on a police officer hold and transported her to Samaritan Pacific Hospital to be evaluated. The hospital placed the subject on a physician’s hold.

August 16, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – SR-18 near Milepost 1, Lincoln County
E-CRASH On August 16, OSP investigated a single-vehicle crash on SR-18 near milepost 1. A black Toyota RAV4 was eastbound when it struck a bull elk crossing the highway. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage. The driver arranged his own tow.

August 17, 2026 – Crash – Injury – US-101 near Milepost 164, Yachats, Lincoln County
OSP was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on US-101 near milepost 164. A Jeep Compass with Washington plates had pulled toward the right side of the roadway to create space for a U-turn. During the U-turn, a Chevrolet Tahoe struck the side of the Jeep. The collision caused the Jeep to roll over. Both drivers and a passenger were transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital. Both vehicles were towed by Rowley’s Towing.

August 18, 2026 – Crash – Injury – SR-18 near Milepost 1, Otis, Lincoln County
(LOG ONLY) On August 18 at approximately 6:08 a.m., a single-vehicle versus deer crash occurred on Highway 18 near milepost 1 when a blue Subaru Outback struck a deer. The vehicle sustained moderate damage. The driver was able to drive the vehicle from the scene.

August 19, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – US-101 near Milepost 163.5, Yachats, Lincoln County
E-Crash OSP responded to a crash on US-101 near milepost 163.5. A Chevy truck rear-ended a Land Rover. All individuals declined medical attention. The Land Rover was able to drive away. The owner of the Chevy arranged their own tow.

August 19, 2026 – Found Property – US-101 near Milepost 123.5, Lincoln County
Log Only: OSP was made aware of credit cards on the side of US-101 near milepost 123. The items were secured and the owner was located. The items were being mailed to the owner.

August 21, 2026 – Impound Vehicle – US-101 near Milepost 154, Waldport, Lincoln County
LOG ONLY On August 21 at approximately 5:14 p.m., OSP performed a traffic stop on a vehicle speeding in the Waldport area. The driver was found to be driving with a suspended license and without insurance. The vehicle was impounded with assistance from Rowley’s Towing.

August 21, 2026 – DUII – Alcohol – SW Starr St and SW Strawberry Ln, Waldport, Lincoln County
On August 21 at approximately 6:19 p.m., OSP observed the driver of a white Lexus sedan make an improper right-hand turn onto US-101 near milepost 155. Troopers conducted a traffic stop and an investigation. The driver was found to be impaired and placed under arrest for DUII.

August 22, 2026 – Warrant Arrest – US-20 near Milepost 2, Newport, Lincoln County
On August 22 at approximately 8:11 p.m., OSP responded to a report of a possible single-vehicle crash near milepost 2 on US-20. Troopers determined the vehicle had not crashed and was disabled. The owner was on scene and found to have a serviceable warrant for their arrest. The owner was placed under arrest and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

August 22, 2026 – DUII – Alcohol and Controlled Substances – NW 25th St and NW Oceanview Dr, Newport, Lincoln County
On August 22, OSP stopped a white Tesla Model Y near NW Oceanview Drive and NW 25th Street in Newport. The driver was found to be impaired and arrested for DUII. The Tesla was towed for community caretaking by Coast Towing. The driver was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail.

August 24, 2026 – Harassment – Devil’s Punch Bowl State Park, Lincoln County
OSP responded to Devil’s Punch Bowl State Park for a report of a disturbance. Troopers located the parties after they had separated and took statements and photographs.

August 24, 2026 – Theft – Devil’s Punch Bowl State Park, Lincoln County
On August 24, OSP was dispatched to a theft at Devil’s Punch Bowl State Park. The victim stated he and his spouse were surfing and had left their black Under Armour backpack on the beach unattended. Someone stole the backpack. It contained his truck keys, multiple paramedic/firefighting textbooks, and other small items. The victim did not see anyone take it and had no description of possible suspects.

August 25, 2026 – Sex Offense, All Except Rape – Newport, Lincoln County
OSP arrested an adult male at his residence in Newport on an outstanding felony warrant for using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct. He was transported to the Lincoln County Jail and lodged.

August 26, 2026 – Theft – Governor Patterson State Park, Waldport, Lincoln County
On August 26 between approximately 1:30 and 2:00 p.m., a theft occurred from a vehicle in the parking area at Governor Patterson State Park in Waldport. The suspect or suspects broke out the driver’s-side front window and took a female passenger’s wallet while she and her husband were walking on the beach.
