True Stories of the Oregon State Police

The following reports are taken directly from the Oregon State Police Logs. All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

August 7, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – US-20 near Milepost 4, Lincoln County

E-CRASH ONLY On the evening of August 7, OSP responded to a two-vehicle crash near milepost 4 on US-20. A blue Toyota hatchback traveling eastbound stopped suddenly when several elk entered the roadway. A tan Chevy sedan following closely behind could not stop in time and rear-ended the Toyota. One occupant was taken to the hospital with a possible minor injury. Coast Towing removed one of the vehicles.

August 8, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – US-20 near Milepost 4, Lincoln County

LOG ONLY On the afternoon of August 8, OSP received a report of a minor crash near milepost 4 on US-20. Traffic had stopped for a vehicle turning across the highway. A Dodge coupe failed to notice the stopped traffic ahead and struck a blue Toyota hatchback, leaving only minor scratches on the Toyota’s rear bumper. Both drivers exchanged information and left the scene.

August 9, 2026 – Miscellaneous – Lincoln County

A California company falsified a dealer application in an attempt to obtain an Oregon wholesale fish dealer license.

August 10, 2026 – Miscellaneous – US-101 near Milepost 133, Cape Foulweather, Lincoln County

Log Only: An unoccupied motorhome parked on the northbound shoulder of Cape Foulweather rolled across all three lanes of the highway and went over the embankment on the southbound side. The registered owner was not present. Bob’s Towing of Corvallis was called to recover the vehicle, which was totaled, and move it back to the northbound shoulder for removal.

August 10, 2026 – Found Property – Fogarty Creek State Park, Lincoln County

Log Only: On August 9 a citizen found a piece of jewelry at Fogarty Creek State Park. The next day, after returning home to Forest Grove, the citizen reported the find to OSP. Troopers advised the person to turn the property in at a local police station.

August 11, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – SR-229 near Milepost 28, Lincoln County

Early on the morning of August 11, OSP investigated a single-vehicle crash on SR-229 at milepost 28. A gray Pontiac Vibe traveling southbound struck a cow elk that was crossing the highway. The driver was uninjured. The elk was killed. Rowley’s Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.

August 12, 2026 – Traffic Crimes – All Except DUII – US-101 near Milepost 111, Lincoln County

On August 12, OSP received reports of a single-vehicle crash near milepost 111 on US-101. A white Chevy van left its lane, drove down the northbound embankment, and struck an ODOT sign post. Fire and medical crews arrived and determined the driver had fled the scene. The registered owner could not be reached immediately after the crash.

August 12, 2026 – Crash – Injury – SR-18 and N Old Scenic Highway 101, Otis, Lincoln County

E-CRASH ONLY On the evening of August 12, OSP responded to a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of SR-18 and Old Scenic Highway 101 in Otis. A silver Toyota SUV pulling out of a gas station and turning west pulled into the path of an eastbound gray Toyota sedan. The sedan was unable to stop and struck the SUV in a T-bone collision. All occupants were transported by ambulance with possible injuries. Menefee Towing removed both vehicles.

August 12, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – SR-34 near Milepost 25, Lincoln County

E-CRASH ONLY Late on August 12, OSP received a report of a vehicle-versus-elk crash near milepost 25 on SR-34. The driver called to report the collision and then left the scene. No injuries were reported.

Involved parties: MROCHINSKI, MAXWELL M (complainant/driver, 27).

Involved vehicles: 712QLT TOYT 4RN (damaged; involved in crash).

August 13, 2026 – FW – Wildlife (non-hunting related) – Alsea Bay, Lincoln County

LOG ONLY Troopers responded to a report of an injured bald eagle in Alsea Bay. They successfully captured the bird and transported it to the Cascades Raptor Center. A veterinarian later determined the eagle had previously been shot with a pellet, though the pellet was not the cause of its current injury. No investigative leads were developed.

August 13, 2026 – Crash – Non-injury – SR-34 near Milepost 17, Lincoln County

E-CRASH ONLY On the afternoon of August 13, OSP responded to a two-vehicle crash near milepost 17 on SR-34. A white Chevy pickup was turning left into Blackberry Recreation Site when it was rear-ended by a westbound black Mazda sedan. One occupant of the Mazda was taken to the hospital with possible minor injuries. Bob’s Towing removed one of the vehicles.

August 13, 2026 – DUII – Controlled Substance – 1510 SE Bay Blvd, Newport, Lincoln County

On August 13, Oregon State Police assisted the Coast Guard with a contact in Newport. The operator of a fishing vessel was found to have an outstanding warrant and to be operating the boat while impaired. The man was arrested and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail.
